Do Americans Really Care More about Vacation Activities than Policy Ideas?

Evidently, there was some commotion about Mitt Romney’s recent vacation, particularly a photo of him and his wife riding a wave runner.

And, of course, President Obama has been criticized for playing golf during his Martha’s Vineyard vacations.

Is this a media obsession or does the average American voter really care?  Hopefully, it’s the former, because we Americans can do better when it comes to evaluating our candidates and elected officials.  After all, aren’t our public leaders allowed to take a break, even have some fun?  And, what does their choice of activity have to do with how their plans for our country will impact each of us?

Sure, when you’re a candidate and/or public office holder, you need to expect that everything you do is fair game for public scrutiny, right or wrong.  That’s not the point.

To be clear, we like riding wave runners and playing golf.  But when it comes to politics, candidates and political leaders, we’re much more concerned with their tax, economic and foreign policy plans.  Isn’t that the way it’s supposed to be?

Here at PolitiView, we think Americans want to get the facts about what candidates stand for so they can make the very best voting choice.  We’re working hard to make this easier than ever for American voters.  Stay tuned.
